The Big Auckland – Take 3 – Out West

Piha Beach - West AucklandWe figured that a visit to Auckland should not be complete without a visit to a beach out on the west coast. So we headed off out west with our visitors from way down south. It wasn’t a blue-sky sort of day but West Auckland beaches specialise in brooding moods. Remember The Piano movie? It’s an interesting drive out of the urban area and over the Waitakeres and finally down to Piha Beach.

The tide allowed us to walk around to the next beach with the interesting hole through the headland. We headed back towards Lion Rock with the intention of walking up it. But by then the rain was past threatening and was into falling. So we scurried back to the car and headed east.
