Scandrett – A Small Auckland Regional Park

Martins Bay AucklandFrom Mahurangi we decided to head out from Warkworth to Scandrett Regional Park.  At the Warkworth dump point I met a man who told me about the good opportunities to park up at Snells Beach so we decided we’d check them out and maybe spend a night there on the way through. I’d always wanted to visit Snells Beach after seeing it from Buckletons Beach about 17 years ago.

A lovely evening at Snells Beach

The wind was coming from the East, which made it a bit keen at Snells Beach. So we headed on to Scandrett Regional Park out towards the end of the peninsula. It’s a smaller park with an interesting collection of old farm buildings. And a small car park and no camp, so we were only allowed to stay one night. The old farm house is very interesting; it’s mostly concrete. The exterior walls are concrete and the mouldings around the doors and windows are concrete.

We made the most of the late afternoon with a walk up the hill and out to the end of the peninsula. That certainly took care of any cobwebs.

We were partly sheltered in the carpark, which was lucky because the wind wasn’t giving up. Next morning we went for a walk over the hill to Martins Bay – a beach and a camp ground and a bunch of houses. And some amazing murals.
