Our gallivanting around came to an end on Tuesday 27 March when we had to start work. Night shift started at 6pm. No avoiding it. We hoped that maybe the first night might finish early to ease us in, but no such luck. 3.30am it finished. So began a 4-night stretch. Work, try to sleep, sleep, try to sleep, try to do everything else, work …. You probably get the picture.
Saturday was a day with no work and a lovely fine day so we went out to Little Waihi Beach for a walk on the sand. We’d camped there back in 2009 when we were working at Katikati, so it has a familiar feel to it. Coming back past the camping ground we greeted some fellow-Traillite motorhomers sitting out in the sun and ended up staying for a couple of pleasant hours.

Back over the hill at Maketu the sun was about to set. So we sat. And watched. It was a nice ending to a relaxing day.

Sunday we got called in the morning to tell us to be at work that night. Such is the start of the kiwifruit season. This time it was an early night which we didn’t mind at all. It seemed a fitting way to end our first week at the packhouse.
