Passing Through Picton

Picton Ferry TerminalEn route from Momerangi Bay on the Queen Charlotte Sound to Blenheim it is hard not to stop at the lookout over Picton. This is at the end/beginning of the Queen Charlotte Drive – a road of many corners. Which climbs over the last ridge to reveal a panoramic view of Picton. Here the fun is to stop and watch the bustle of the place. Ships and trains and buses and trucks and cars and campervans. People coming from somewhere or going to somewhere. The ferries disgorge their contents of vehicles and people and with hardly a pause load another lot up again. It’s like they’re lined up for a drag race down the Sound but it never eventuates. Although I can imagine the two rival ferries muttering to each other “Wanna a go mate!” and “Eat my wake!” and other ship taunts.
