The 250-year old Sycamore tree at Sycamore Gap on Hadrian's Wall. It's a bit daunting photographing famous trees/views. They are icons and already there are zillions of images. Is there an angle left? Plus there's lots of people with big cameras who look very organised. Often one for a contrary viewpoint, I thought the less travelled side of the gap would offer a better chance with the clouds and the light. Four days later I met Ruskin's paintings which are all about the clouds and the light. So there's always another view. #sycamoregap #hadrianswall #northofengland #visitengland

There's something majestic about a ruined priory. It's a bit like a punch-drunk fighter that doesn't know how to fall down. Or the Australian cricket teams that never knew when they were beaten. This is the Lanercost Priory near Hadrian's Wall in the north of England.
