From Scandrett Regional Park we headed over to the other side of the peninsula, down a long ridge to Scott Point. This was actually a small part of the Mahurangi Regional Park, the western portion of which we’d visited a few days before. They are separated by a short kayak paddle across the Mahurangi Harbour which narrows down to the Mahurangi River which gave boat access to Warkworth. Thus in times gone by this was a crucial access way.
We parked up on the small flat landing area at the end of the road, with about 300 degree views of Mahurangi Harbour.
The forecast was not good, and it was easy enough to see that our spell of fine weather was coming to an end for a while. We went for a quick walk to explore the grounds of the original homestead, a fine old building lovingly restored. Eventually the rain set in and that was it for the day.
