Last week we went for a walk from where we are staying in Burnside, down Kaikorai Valley in Dunedin. Wyn remembers bike rides towards Dunedin down Townsleys Road, and we could see that from where we are staying. So it seemed a good place for a walk last Friday before the expected snow and cold.
Rides around the Whare Flat and Flagstaff area often took the long way back via Brockville and Mt Grand and down Townsleys Road to Kaikorai Valley. It is a big descent which involved a lot of zooming and hanging on as well as a couple of corners you needed to be ready for. Walking up Townsleys Road provided a lot of up, right from the outset.
Photo stops provided a bit of time for recovering our breathing. At Abbotts Hill Road we turned back, at the point where a public walking track leads off down to Abbottsford. There are some huge old trees here that suggest earlier occupation and perhaps habitation.
From there there was an extensive view across Burnside and Concord and Corstorphine towards the Pacific Ocean.
So good to see you are getting out and about. We have only been by car.
