Travels in South East Asia August-September 2011. Koh Samui had certainly changed a lot since 1977 when I first visited. But we could hardly believe our luck when we landed on a lovely laid-back end of a fairly busy Lemai Beach. The water was warm and clear, and there was no traffic or roads and hardly any bars. Our day would start with a fresh breakfast at the small beachfront restaurant, and maybe an early swim. It was a lovely way to start our travels/honeymoon.
Later this day we ventured out to Chaweng Beach further to the north. This was the almost untouched beach I visited in 1977. It is now most of the things a beach shouldn’t be. Such is the change that tourism brings.
